These QCTP use a larger longer shaft than is equipped. on the stock 9x lathes. It is possible is replace the stock 10 mm toolpost stud with a longer. 14mm stud. Even with doing this the original cross slide (topslide) is really too small for this. toolpost. There is a height issue with mounting the 39083 on top of the compound slide.

Jan 22, 2022There is one job for which a lathe tool post grinder is actually the best choice. That is truing the hard jaws on a universal chuck while it is installed on its own lathe. You have to have the proper way to load the jaws during grinding, but you end up with improved accuracy. Old newsstone is an ideal way cover while grinding.

Oct 05, 2007It uses 2 step crowned aluminum pulleys and a flat belt to drive. My plans are to make a clamp out of a chunk of aluminum and use one of the spare spindles from my tool grinders. Feb 18, 2010Use plastic as suggested,with wet stone towels. I am really paranoid about getting grit on my lathes. Be sure to remember to run the tool post grinder for some time before attempting any serious work. Themac,as I said,recommends 1/2 hour running. Gear head lathes are very hard to get a good finish with,due to the gears transmitting vibration.
